Expressions of interest: MEPP Commission

Are you interested in serving as the CUPE appointed representative on the Municipal Employees’ Pension (MEPP) Commission?

This role involves leadership and participation in decision-making process that influences our pension plan, to ensure the plan serves the best interest of all members.

CUPE members in good standing of Local Unions enrolled in the Municipal Employees Pension Plan (MEPP) are eligible to apply. please refer to the attached list of CUPE Locals enrolled in MEPP.

In your email submitting your expression of interest to serve as the CUPE members’ representative on the MEPP Commission, please include:

  • Full Name
  • CUPE local number
  • Preferred email
  • A written submission detailing how your skills and competencies align with the expectations of the role.
  • Please also clearly indicate if you are prepared to serve an 8-year commitment

Conditions of Appointment

The effectiveness of the Municipal Employees’ Pension Commission (the Commission) depends not only on its members’ technical expertise but also on their personal qualities. As custodians of retirement security, Commission members must strike a balance between financial knowledge and sound judgment, teamwork, and adaptability. By selecting nominees with both the hard skills to manage complex pension funds and the soft skills that foster trust, inclusion, and informed decision making, we can ensure the board is well-prepared to meet current challenges and future demands.

Assets that are especially important at this time:

  • Actuarial experience or understanding of principles like financial analytics.
  • Leadership skills that help others collaborate and reach consensus through diplomacy.
  • Experience with technology and cybersecurity.
  • A member capable of representing the perspectives of both younger and rural members.

The successful candidate must commit to:

  • A term commitment of up to 8 years.
  • The Commission typically meets nine times a year in Regina.
  • Members receive compensation for meeting preparation and attendance.
  • Travel and accommodation expenses are covered for meetings and education events.
  • Participate in a fully funded educational program.

Expect to dedicate 15 to 20 days away from work annually to attend to MEPP Commission duties. Please refer to the attached documents for further information.
